Default Sparks from my steering column :o

A couple of days ago, when driving my wife's 2005 Ion, I noticed a clicking sound like plastic catching. When I mentioned it, she said she'd been hearing it for a few days.

Then today, when she got out on the road, the power steering went out and the PWR STR light came on. I had seen this happen before, so I went out a bought a new 60 amp fuse and put it in.

When I got in the car to see if the indicator was still on, I heard the clicking sound again, but a lot more of it. As I was turning the wheel back and forth, suddenly sparks shot out of the bottom of the steering column.

Needless to say, I turned off the car and got out. Fortunately I have the extended service plan, so I'm going to call my dealer in the morning, but I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this, or heard of it happening. Thanks.

I've had electric power steering problems before, but none produced sparks. I think you have a short circuit somewhere in your electric power steering system.
