Default Still having loss of power issues

94 sl2 automatic

Problem: Engine revs high like normal but car doesn't go anywhere. Only goes when it is in overdrive in low rpms. Then it creeps along. Feels like the cat converter is clogged.

Ok so I took someone's previous advice in here and tried to replace my catalytic converter. I took it off and I see it is already hollowed out. I did not know this before I bought the car. There is no E-Check here so I just got a test pipe and welded it on here. This seem to fix my loud rattling sounds I had before. So this was fine for 2 days. Now it still has the same issues.

Example getting onto the highway: I push the gas half way to the floor and the engine responds by shifting down like normal. The car goes slower then normal to get up to speed. By around 40-50MPH it stops going and the engine still rev's high (by now around 5K). It will keep this speed until I let go of the gas and let it go into overdrive. Then it goes... Likewise if I am up to 65mph and I want to pass someone I hit the pedal half way to the floor, goes up to 5K or so and it will not move. I have to do it in overdrive. Also sometimes after driving on the highway the car will kind of buck around. It bucks kind of like when my EGR valve is clogged and I am going 25mph. (note my egr line is clogged and it does need replaced. i cleaned it out but didn't fix it. if i disconnect it the problem goes away)

This problem also sometimes happens driving in the city in the 35-45MPH range and try to do a hard acceleration.

Does this sound like the back end muffler is clogged? Or maybe a clogged fuel filter/pump? I have had nothing but problems since I bought this car. Every few months something else goes wrong

An Auto-tragic Tranny............

Sounds like the Valve Body is takin a Crap. Take car to a Tranny Shop and let them test drive your ride. I say the Vavle Body is going bad.

I know it is going bad. It slam shifts into reverse. Other then that though everything else shifts fine... or at least it feels like it is.

I guess it could be the tranny. anyone else think this is true?

Try disconnecting the converter and go for a real noisey drive to see if your situation changes.

Tranny fluid looks burnt when i checked it today after driving a bit. Maybe it is the torque converter and/or sensor?

Mufflers can collapse internally. Unbolt yours and give that a try.

Fuel filter could clog. It probably wouldn't cost much or hurt anything just to replace it now.

That happened on my 97 SC2 it was just horrible, the car sucked, i changed the fuel filter and it was a million times better. Its a bad thing when the fuel in the filter comes out BLACK right?

So yesterday and today there was a really raspy sound coming from the back of the car. I look at the muffler and there is a nice size hole in in now. Past 2 days I have had no issue with power loss. I don't want to say this fixed the problem yet though....

I am going to change the fuel filter and replace tranny fluid this weekend because i have no clue when the previous owner did
