Default strange engine noise & transmission problem

ok, 93 saturn sl2 124k miles
1. when i go to accelerate, the motor makes a sqeaking noise up to about 2200 rpm.it does this in neutral too, so i know its not clutch noise. i am not noticing a drop in power either
2. my manual transmission is getting harder to shift each day. it is really hard to downshift into first, with the clutch all the way in. sometimes it is harder to shift than other times. will a tranny flush and fill help?
thanks.

does it squeek when idling? If so, pop the hood & try to narrow it down. I'd suspect a pulley, but it's hard to tell.

hard to shift could be clutch or shifter cable related, off the top of my head. Not that a fluid change hurts, but it's not a very likely culprit, IMO.

im assuming an clutch issue, which really sucks. i do grind gears occanically even when the clutch is push in 99% of all the way in.

it does not do it at idle. how would a pulley make a noise like that? ill narrow it down tommrow after i change the oil.

You should try to pin point which end of the engine the noise is coming from. If it is from the front then the serpentine belt or the belt tensioner would be first suspects.

Transmission.
Where is the clutch pedal engaging? Close to the floor or up nearly at the top?

you say you grind gears occasionally? Does it ever pop out of gear?

Are your shifter cables original to the extent of your knowledge?

Difficulty getting into 1st and 2nd while downdshifting is a problem for me as well. The synchro's are shot. Ever try shifting without the clutch? LOL its fun. I just did it yesterday but it takes a LOT of practice to rev-match.

ya ive shifted w/o the clutch before, you have to tap the gas when you do it,lol. anyway. The synchro's are shot? i thought it would be the clutch. but i done feel any slippage or anything that that when i punch it, she'll spin the tires.

orig. shifter cables as far as i know. person who had the car before me drove it like a grandma too.

i'd say synchro's. They go on all transmissions. Try double clutching.. if that helps, then its worn synchro's. I know that if i double-clutch going into second, it glides like buttah.
