| Swapped PCMs, now I have a problem Well, I thought my PCM was pretty much F-ed up, so I got another one from a junkyard. I got the one that was OBDII, auto, sohc. I disconnected my battery, took out the old one, and plugged in the new. Started the car up, everything looked fine. After running for like 15 secs. or so, the Service light same on. Not Service Engine Soon, but Service, with the wrench beside it. I drove the car anyway cause i needed to get to work. I was then going up a hill and a steady throttle in 3rd gear I think at a steady RPM, and the car started shaking realy bad, from front to back, like I kept hitting the brakes. Needless to say, I made it home.
What's the problem here? The PCM is made for my car. I don't need to have it re-programmed do I? |

| So, I disconnected it and plugged the PCM while it was disconnected. then, once i got the 'new' pcm installed, i reconnected the cable. so, you say now that the car has ran, I should disconnect the wire and reconnect it? |

| thew only time a saturn pcm needs to be reprogamed is if its from a diffrent year, model, production date etc and sturn has TO BURN the pcm knowledge base into it, but if you got one from the same year, model etc then it should not need to be re done, saturn pcms read back feedback from the sensors and reset themselves.
did you get it yourself from the same yeart and model, did the numbers match? if not, let me know what the numbers are off your old one and the new one... Joey

| ALl the numbers match except for the longest number at the bottom. I assume that's supposed to be different.
Also, my SES has now been flashing and I put the old PCM back in and the Service light went away. I read that the light flashing means cylinder misfire...? I checked the plugs, got new wires. One of the plugs was white a little, and Haynes indicated that it meant it was too hot. Well, I used some fine sand paper and cleaned it off and put it back in and it still doesn't work right.
It will take about 15 - 16 secs to do a 0 - 60 @ WOT. When I take off full throttle, it sounds like a lawn mower, probably because 1 cylinder isn't working. Also, you cannot read codes from the ALDL port for some reason. I just replaced the EGR because mine was dead. I figured I'll take it in to get serviced. Hopefully they can figure it out. I don't have the time to work on it because school is almost over. |
