Default Swapping engines..

OK.. to start off..
i have and drive a '95 SL2, and the engine is on it's last leg.. i'm looking into buying a new engine and swapping it into my satty.

Are there certain years that are incompatible with certain engines?

can someone inform me what saturn engines will fit in my 95 SL2

thanks in advance!

thanks for the referral pat! i think this is the person who wrote me today, but they didnt write the year and model engine they had so melissa wrtoe them back and asked for the info.
now that i see your looking into using diffrent models, when you respond pinknuggit, ill handle the email and explain each year that will fit, their mileage and prices. and yes you get a substantial discount coming from spot.
on an engine discounts from spot range from 55-100 bucks off!

hey:

The person in need of the engine is actually my roomate.. i came on here to help him out finding an engine..

his car is a '95 SL2 dohc

i'd be very obliged to tell my roomie of the engines that will fit his car..

we were actually looking at this 2000 cavalier z34 at the junk yard and thinking about a frankenstein!

i haven't checked back here for a while because he emailed you and i assumed he got everything taken care of..

so, enlighten me with what fits and what doesn't

A Saturn "S" series will need another "S" series engine plain and simple. These cars use engines specifically designed and built for them and not used in literally ANY other car. Given enough time and money however, you can put anything you want in there. As far as a "bolt in" replacement. ANY 95'-99' DOHC will bolt right in. Other years "can" also be used, but will require a little more work due to changes in the emissions, fuel and sensor systems that occured over the years. You absolutely cannot use a 91' or 92' engine (why would you want to?) without some more detailed headaches rearing their ugly heads.

as wolf said, true that any 95-99 will work
but 96-7's require a little trick as they only have one coolant sensor, since the 95 is already linear egr that takes that out of the equation.
99 is a little more involved, as you have to get a relitvley complete engine, with intake and exhaust manifolds, then use the 96 ONLY injecotrs will bolt up and have the proper return and regulator for fuel pre set up.
thanks wolf, we could use an extra hand round here, im checking the boards but am in no shape to be answering all the tech questions and geez, dont seem fair to hit tommy with every last one.
drop me an email ill fill you in thanks and hope you had a nice holiday, Joey
