Default Technical ? on 95 SC2 engine...

I have a 95 Saturn SC2 that I just sold to a friend and the timing chain broke. I believe (not 100% positive) that it's a 1.9L dohc engine. What I'm wondering is whether or not this an interference or a non-interference engine. I.e. is it likely that he bent valves when the chain broke or can he just throw on a new chain and be good as new.

If there were multiple engines available for the 95 SC2 can anyone tell me which were interference and which were non-interference? Thanks.

There are only 2 basic types of engines for any s-series saturn: SOHC and DOHC. Both are 1.9L, and both are interferance engines. It's likely the valves are bent, and the pistons may be damaged as well.

Yes - they are basically the same engine with different heads, but both are definately interference.

Unfortunately for you rfriendthe !9 lt engines are both interferance. There will most likely (90% + chance) be bent valves. Small chance of dmaged valve guides. Little chance of damaged pistions other than marked by the valves.
