Default There is no longer Reverse yet alone a smooth 2nd gear.

I was out driving my car one day and it was driving fine and then all of the sudden at a stop light it went to shift into 2nd and kicked real hard and like threw me back into my seat. (99sl1 auto trans) So i decided to drive it home and on the way home i had to stop at the stoplight and when i got on the gas it would rev real high and it wanted to shift into 2nd gear and finally when it did it almost gave me a whiplash and then my SES light came on. So i got home and shut the car off. I checked my trans fluid the next day and i was a lil low so it wasnt anything bad. So then after i topped off the fluid i decided to drive it to see if it was better but it would rev real slow and took awhile to shift and then finally did. Then i parked my car and tried to put it in reverse and it jus rolled backwards like it was in neutral. So i gave it some gas and it jus kept rolling. So i really dont know what is wrong but it seems like i need a new tranny and it will be the 3rd tranny and the car only has 65K miles. I didnt beat this tranny at all and had the fluid flushed like 2 months ago.

You need to get that thing to a tranny shop and have it fixed...prolly needs a tranny rebuild. If it was rebuilt recently, you need to take it back to whoever did the work.

Topping off the fluid won't do anything for you, that's a common misconception with people and transmissions. If your engine develops a rod knock, do you think changing and/or topping off your oil will fix it? Of course not, but people for some reason think this might be the solution to their tranny problems.

well i needed a new tranny when i busted the old one by hitting the curb. I bought the car used from ford and bought the extended warranty which was up last june. Ford got the tranny from the Saturn dealer. I was wondering how many miles must of been on the tranny that i got from Saturn. My guess is that it has close to 100,000 miles now i have only put 32K miles on this tranny.
