Default Windshield removal

Heya. Does anyone know how to remove the windshield from a 94 SL without destroying it? There's a perfect one at the wreckers I can get for $15, rather than the usual $500+.

Thoughts?

Jim

I have only removed a windsheild from a chevy 1500. We folded up a beach towel and slowly worked our way around tapping it around the edges with a ball-teen hammer. The second person was putting pressure on the windshield. I think it helped to that it was around 100 degrees outside because the thing came out fairly easy.

jimmy, even proffesional glass techicians HATE saturn windshields, they use this super strong urethane that cures to a hard plastic, the frotn glass in saturns actually add to the structurual rigidity of the vehicle, as it cures the bond it creates is unreal, take it from a guy whos removed dozens, ive done them myself and ive paid glass techs to do it, THEY SUCK, odds are for every one good one that comes out you will have to break 3 in the process, we dont even sell them anymore cause it simply wasnt worth it, but if its a pick and pull yard, for 15 bucks a pop, go give it a whirl, ive personally used piano wire, which sucks, in normal cars thats the way to do it, with saturns ureathane its damn near impossilbe, the glass techs come with a special set of air cutters which is basically a mini swazall.
here in the states many states ave mandatory glass coverage, regardless if you have collsion or not insurance companys HAVE TO replace the front glass for free or 50.00, i know this is in affect in many states, not sur eif all of them but most. check with your insruance company cause even if you have minimum coverage they may very well have a clause that covers the front glass....

Well, someone tried the wire trick. (I like that one, personally) Overheated it, and cracked it up one side. Damn.

We have kinda funny glass coverage here, because of our winters. Unlike a lot of places, salt isn't used on the roads much here, as it doesn't do any good when it gets really cold anyway. We use a lot of gravel, and the glass business here is always booming, especially in the spring. As a result, an insurance company won't cover your windshield unless you apply and pay for it specifically. Even then, they'll inspect your windshield to make sure it was good in the first place. When I bought my car, my windshield looked like it had been sandblasted, so they wouldn't cover me, and I've got comprehensive insurance.

Oh well.

Wee. I'll be attempting the removal of a windshield for my car this week thanks to a kid with a basketball. Wish me luck, folks.

Anyone want to give me some ideas of what not to do with the wire? I only have one shot at this removal thing and Saturns don't show up at the local pull a part very often.
