This thread was helpfull. I will probley be buying a new Deck and speakers soon, So I'll be putting this info to good use. I have a question tho, Has any one cut the holes in the rear deck where the stock speakers are to put in lets say, 2 8" subs? I've thought about doing that, Putting in 2 8" subs in the back to cover the Bass and putting a Component system up front to cover the Mids and Highs.

Default Rear sub

I would not recommend putting any subwoofer in a door, or tailgate.
The problems that will arise are, cabinetry design, and building, and vibrations when closing the door. The added strain on the door hinges will also cause problems.
You're better off building a dedicated cabinet for subs.

I'm not talking about putting the Subs in the door, I'm talking about putting them in the rear deck where the stock speakers are. Just cutting the holes bigger to accomidate the 8's.

Default Subs

My apology, I didn't read it right.
The subs would work very well mounted or firing through the rear deck.
The rear window, would act as a horn loaded enclosure.
Be sure to mount the woofers onto wood/MDF, not directly onto the metal.
I had such a setup in my '85 Accord, using 2- 8's in a Transmission-Line enclosure, and the woofers were firing through the rear deck. The beauty about this, is that Bass will stay in the passanger compartment, not in the trunk.
The separate components up front is a great idea, try to keep the tweeters within 6 inches of the woofer, this will maintain proper staging integrity.

I figured I would just mount them instead of having them fire through the deck, I think it would sound better that way, then they won't have the fabric in the way of the sound. I don't want to have 2 15's that sound like crap in the trunk, I hear enough of those as it is. I want enough bass to even out the sound, Not drown it out. I might get a 12" woofer to put in the trunk in about a year, But nothing too big. I don't want my car to sound like it's about to rattle all the bolts out of it, But its a Saturn, So it's going to rattle anyway.

Default Subs

Even if the subs fire through the cloth, it will NOT affect the bass in any way. (my system fired through the rear cloth also.)
I would not advise putting a 2nd. sub in the trunk, it will sound like a$$.
Just give those 8's good power, and the right cabinet.

I meant to say that when I get the 12 that I would take the 8's out. I guess I need to be more specific when I post, But thats what almost a whole day without sleep will do to you I guess. I'm not sure what 8's to buy though, I don't have alot of money right now and I need a good sound system. The stock one sounds like crap, The rear speakers are not even hooked up, Blame the people who had the car before me for that. I need the "Best bang for the buck". Any ideas?

Default Rear speakers

My philosophy about rear speakers is very much like the first rule of Italian driving; "What's behind you is not important".
Concentrate on front stage, you'll get rear fill even if you don't have speakers in the back, because sound, especially highs will reflect off hard surfaces like glass.
The quality/brand of the 8's will not matter as much as the quality of the cabinet and installation. I've managed to get high end sound with low end drivers, by simply building a proper cabinet..,and back-bracing the woofer's basket to the rear of the cabinet. This made the woofer sound like it was die cast not stamped steel, and prevented the basket from ringing.
Personally I think 2-8's is just right for most ANY vehicle. Think of how much air space you are trying to fill, in comparison to an average room in a house.

I plan on setting the settings right, I had the system in my Eclipse put in by a pro and he set the settings on it. I had to turn the settings down on the Amp because the Bass was drowning out the highs. Which would sound better in ya'lls opinion, 2 8's in the rear deck or a 12" woofer in the trunk with 2 mids in the rear deck and a component system in the front? I'm going to rip the system apart anyways probley next month when I get some money and replace everything.
