Default Access hatchback speakers in a Saturn wagon?

I want to replace the rear speakers in my ’96 Saturn SW1 stationwagon, but I’m not sure how to access the hatchback speaker ports without using the jaws of life. Is there a method to detach the grills, or must I remove the entire door panel in order to install speakers?

SW's are tight

As for getting to the rear speakers:

Open the hatch, on the right hand side theres a little pocket, there should be a screw in there, remove that screw.

Where about your 3rd brake light is, theres a plastic cover there, held by 2 of those little annoying pins which you must push the center of them in then pull on the other edge to get them out. remove those

then remove that whole piece (it snaps out)

then, remove the 2 side pieces of the hatch (once again, snaps out)

Then comes the big back piece, you should be able to use that pocket to pull it off and get you started.

the speakers should be exposed now, if i remember right, it takes a torx screwdriver (havnt touched them in a long time, besides that, i relocated mine)

and of corse just go backwards when putting back togeather

I was afraid of that! Those pin-held and snap-out panels seem awfully tricky to remove without inadvertently breaking anything, but I'll give it a shot.

Hopefully I won't have to resort to duct-taping my door back together.

Thanks for the instructions!

those pins, the trick is to poke the center with a pencil or screwdriver... then use a plyer to pull it out...

when putting them back in, take out the center part completely.. put in the outer part, then push the center in once the outer part is in. that sounds confusing. heh. but they snap in, hell, my 3rd brake light part isint even clipped in with those things, only the little snaps.. i lost those pins.

its crazy, their like $3.99 for 5 at Saturn
