Question Need help matching an amp to a RF P2D212 sub

I'm looking to upgrade my current stereo setup by adding a sub to it, and I need some help matching an amp with my sub. The sub is a Rockford Fosgate P2D212 (info can be found here Rockford Fosgate® - P2D212 ). It's a Dual Voice Coil, 2 Ohm sub rated at 250 watt RMS.

I'm confused about two things:
Should I be looking at a mono, or a 2 channel amp? I only need the amp to power the sub, my speakers are going to run off the HU's power.
And does the amp need to be able to push 250 RMS into a 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm load (since it's dual voice coil)?

I'd like the amp to be Rockford Fosgate, since all of my other speakers are RF, too.

I'm a noob when it comes to subs and amps, so excuse me if I'm asking silly questions. Feel free to give specific model# suggestions, or just general advice/info.

Thanks.

If you are only running 1 sub; and are sure you want to stay with rockford; i'd suggest getting the 2 channel 300 watt amp (model P300-2); and bridge the amp.

According to crutchfield a 2 ohm dvc sub has a 4 ohm load at the amp; so that's the power rating your looking for. Here's a link from crutchfield on how to properly wire the sub to a 2-channel amp.:

The amp I linked puts out a little more juice then the speaker is technically rated for, but rockford makes good quality stuff and it should be just fine. The mono 300 watt rockford amp is designed for 2ohm loads; that's why I think the 2 channel amp will run it better. Either way, both amps are the same price.
