Default Hello Everyone!

Well, I bought my '95 saturn SL about the beginning of last year. I managed to crash it on an icy day in january The crash destroyed the driver side door and I have since just let it sit. Well, I'm happy to say that in the past few weeks I have taken a profound interest in fixing my baby up. So in about a week I am getting a new door (problem solved ) and I am now interested in modding my saturn with as many performance parts as I can. So far I bought an underbody lighting kit (not a performance part I know but I have always wanted underbody lights) and some new spark plugs. lol. But when I am done it will have every upgradeable part I can find.

I'm glad to be on a message board that is as obsessed with saturn modding as I am. They are great cars, and I'm proud to own one.

P.S. has anyone tried out the aluminum cast flywheel? It is about 10 lbs lighter than the stock flywheel and it supposedly makes the car rev easier and faster, all in all raising performance. Any details on this one would be great.

Thankyou again. Great to be here.

Welcome to the spot! Even though its kinda rude to suggest different message boards... try going to www.***********.com as well. You will learn a lot from both message boards.

If you're interested in a standalone fuel management system, try www.plastikracing.com We're all good people

Now.. what's your first question? LOL

Well, don't go nuts buying stuff just yet. We can guide you to your performance goal.....listen and save money / aggravation.

As for the lightweight flywheel....yep. Plenty of people have used them, and they do help rev it up quicker.
Personally, I don't recommend them if you plan to go over 300hp, but some run them beyond those power levels.

thanks a bunch folks. currently i am looking for a 10-20 hp increase from stock SOHC engine. I was thinking of replacing it witha DOHC, although im not sure yet. what is a good replacement air intake system? sorry for all the questions, but yeah I am excited.

Now I have a very serious question. I probably will post a video later on youtube showing you this so you can get an idea of what may be wrong, but the problem is, I just replaced the spark plugs and now when I push the acceleration pedal the RPM drops a significant amount until i push the gas a bit harder. This makes it very susceptible to dieing while in mid acceleration, I was thinking perhaps it has something to do with the compression or something associated with the pistons. any help would be greatly appreciated.

If you're serious at all about performance, the DOHC swap is the first thing to do. Getting an extra 20hp out of the SOHC will take quite a bit of work and money, when you can get another 24hp by getting the DOHC for much less, and you'll still be able to build on that. People have turbo'd SOHCs just to find all they could make was a little more than stock DOHC power - the SOHCs just don't mod well.

actually i was thinking of buying one off the internet. i found a complete (im more than sure) 1995 SL 1.9L DOHC engine for 900 bux with less than 120,000 miles and the price includes shipping.

aslo, how does a smashed car insure that it didnt spin any bearings?

generally if a car is in a junkyard for being wrecked, it was running just before it got wrecked. Doesn't mean the engine is perfect, but it's more likely to be good. If you find a perfectly good looking car in a junkyard, it's probably a major mechanical problem, like the engine or transmission.

wow, didnt event think of it that way. lol. thanks a bunch. i will check a nice junk yard out sometime soon. i live up in the boonies in Colorado, so the nearest junkyard that might have the engine i need is about 60 or so miles away. can anyone give an estimate (and i know it varies from junk yard to junkyard but just give me a general price range) on how much it ill cost me?

thanks people off to bed now.
