Default Hello, My name is SofaKingCrazy, and I am a car addict...

Hello All:

Here is my short story... I have been a "car-guy" forever, and a die hard VW fan for many years. (no groans, please) After working as an Electronics Tech for the same company for 5 years, I found myself "downsized", laid-off and looking for work. Long story short, not being able to find anything else, I took a job as a parts counterman at a... you guessed it... Saturn dealership! (I had parts experience, as I worked for a couple parts suppliers during summers when I was in college). As it turns out, a couple months after I got the job, I found mylself looking for a car. (My VW Golf got rear-ended). I tripped over a very nice 1995 SC1 with one major problem: the engine was seized! After some research and bargaining with one of the techs at work, I bought the car and had a new engine professionally installed, at a VERY good price! In addition to the engine, I also had a new clutch, resurfaced flywheel, new front brakes, belt, and tuneup parts installed. When all was said and done, I had a nice Saturn at well under the retail price.

While I know it is "only" a SOHC, even in stock form the car's performance is very respectable. I have a lot more thoughts on this topic, but I'll save them for another thread. I will add that, I do think that, to a degree, the Saturn S-Series embodies the spirit of the early VW watercooled cars (ie: 1975-198, especially with regard to performance, economy, and "fun-to-drive" factor.

My mods to my coupe have been few at this point, but incude adding 15" Saturn "Sawtooth" wheels with 195/55R15 tires, Stereo System, SPS Throttle Body, A-spec upper stress bar, and Cherry Bomb Turbo Muffler (See my post in the performance mods forum about this muffler).

Anyway, I may not be a "die-hard Saturn guy" (yet), but I do enjoy my car in all aspects, and am becoming more and more "into" Saturns as time passes. No doubt that this is partly due to the fact that two of the guys I work with are "die-hard" Saturn enthusiasts. Hopefully I can put my 20-something years of tinkering with cars to good use and contribute to the forums once in a while...

Well, that wasn't as short as I had planned... Oh well, I hope I didn't bore anyone!

Thanks! To be honest, I am kinda "old school", and I am not thrilled with the direction that VW is going in the US. I also don't really care for the "attitude" that most VW Guys have these days, either.

Thanks to all of you for the "welcomes"!

Hey, I'm not alone anymore! I work for Recycled ___ inc. Or Maybe you might know it as Parts PLace for all Volkswagons, in MI. I gave up on trying to fix my jettas and golfs and bought a saturn not to long ago. Wlecome to the forum, by the way.
