Default looks like I will be buying a Vue soon

Time to replace the daily driver - 89 Daytona ES Turbo. Rust and general old age are taking their toll

My wife likes the Vue and from the outside (have not test driven yet) I do too.

We also have a Blazer so I am used to the size and shape....... just want something with a little more mpg than the Blazer.

Soooo...... now that I have said that............ any comments on the Vue?

It will probably be the 2.2 with the 5-speed as it will be a commuter and long distance driver.

TIA for any comments

Bill

It looks as thought the MPG is 1 lower for freeway and 4 lower for city. If the wife says that is cool I might. I imagine the V6 is about 5 grand more?

if you go for the 4 cylinder stick its a nice buy. the auto on the other hand ive heard is **** in the snow bc of the tranny it uses. its called VTi and its steel belts in the tranny that makes shifting smooth. you wont feel it **** at all. plus they just took the VTi off ther market for like 2 months to work out all the bugs so if u do get an auto it will prolly get recalled a few months after ya buy it. the 4 cylinder sticks have some nice power bc you get to control where you wanna shift i will never go back to automatic EVAR....unless i live in a big ass city with LOTS AND LOTS of stop and go traffic.

BTW welcome

Dude......is that Daytona auto or 5 speed? TII correct? Got any pics? I'm interested in that sucker (but I won't be able to buy untill summer if you could possibly wait that long) if the price is right.

It is the 2.5 turbo with a 5-speed. Not a Shelby(2.2). Was quick in the day but now has 170k miles on it and rust. Still pulls hard but I just don't trust it on long drives anymore.

Prolly not what you are looking for. I am hoping someone on the Shelby/Dodge list will want to save it from the scrap yard.

I will miss it but don't need a snappy ride for my daily driver (I must be getting old).

I'm not planning on driving it as is, I'd like to rebuild one. Doesn't have to be a shelby (I like the bigger torque numbers the 2.5 offers). How bad's the rust?

You do anything to it?

The rust is confined to the rear wheel wells (typical for Daytonas) and the floorboards. Hood (with turbo buldge), doors, hatch, and fenders are fine. It also has the ground effects so I don't know what is going on under there.

I have made no mods to it other than things like manual switch to keep the driving lights on when I want them and a manual toggle to take the headlights up and down (relay burnt out and I didn't want to take the dash apart).

I know other small things that are wrong with it besides high milleage and rust if you really are interested.

I plan to drive it until it dies or becomes unsafe....then buy a Vue

I'm really interested in this come summer time if the price is right. PM me about this, we'll see if we can work something out.
