Default 06 ION2 Radio Upgrade

I have an 06 ION2 with the single CD player (no MP3) and I am looking to upgrade to the stock CD/MP3 radio (I know aftermarket is the smarter choice, but I am weird that way). The reason is that the CD/MP3 unit is XM ready.

I talked to a few dealers about this and they either don't understand me or I am explaining it wrong. They told me I would have to purchase a new radio, of course, but also some new type of harness and my overall cost would end up around $1000!!

I know that some GM radios need to be dealer programmed to the car once they are installed, but a whole new harness??

Just wondering if anybody has went down this road at all........

I would say, go with an aftermarket Head-unit. They look pretty and arent that expensive. Going from stock radio to stock radio even for the XM seems kind of pointless, mainly if you wanted a brand new unit the dealer will rape you.

Consider a double-DIN aftermarket stereo. It fills the hole like OE, but works better if you buy the right brand.
