Default 2007 Saturn Ion 3

I just bought my wife a 2007 Saturn Ion 3 a few months ago and we just hit 3000 miles and I need to change the oil. I always do the oil in my WRX. I went to Advance and bought an oil filter for her car and it isn't a hard cased filter like my WRX uses. Its an open filter like a minature air filter.

Is this right? I haven't had the chance to get under her car and check but figured I would ask before I drain some oil. If anyone can point me to a picture of the filter that would be great.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Board.

The filter is metal can filter. Sounds like you have the right style of filter. The filter housing is gotten to from the top of the engine. It is on the intake side on the rear of the engine. You will need to remove the plastic cap to get the filter out. Take another trip to the parts store and get a filter cap nut from them. 32 mm or 1 1/4 inch hex. They make special sockets for the filters so get one of those.

Remove and replace the filter then go under the car to drain the oil, 15 mm drain plug.
