Default Autotranny Service and 60K ??'s

Ok I am sure this has been talked about. But I new to Saturn cars

I have been told I need to service an 2004 icon.
it has 57890 miles on it. The only thing done to this car is oil changes and tire rotations.

What Services was missed at 30K and what should be done at 60K.
I have never worked on a Saturn before. I know it has a 2.2L motor and a 5 Speed Auto Tranny. 4 Doors and AC/PS.
When looking over the trany, I found a yellow dip stick bolted down.

So i am coming here to ask before i screw it up. The dealer is asking $250 to $349 for a tranny only Service... this seem way high,.,,

I forgot to add this. I had it Scanned and the guy told me it is Open Loop. and that is bad. he said the computer needs to be reflashed to fix this.

Is this right?

Why iwas the car scanned? was the ses lite on? and I have no idea why they would need to "reflash" it... as for the tranny, it shouldnt need serviced untill 1000,000. even then it is only a filter and fluid... where didyou take it for service??

I had it Scanned just to see if it had any codes.
The Tranny has been miss shifting randomly and the car gets a High idle up to 2K RPM for no reason about 3 time this year.

I wanted my Tech friend to see if it had stored codes. It had no codes stored and had no Service light on.

The guy who scanned it, Did not want to waiste my money. He was puzzled by the other 2 things, but admitt he know nothing of saturns and said i might be better talking to a dealer ship. He would also not touch the tranny. .

He thought a CAN BUS system like Saturn shoup be in Closed loop after it is warm.

I am not sure eighter way, So i found this web site and i am begging for some help...

1. Tranny Service not till 100K miles Cool deal...
2. Should a ICON be in Closed Loop or open loop after it is fully warmed up and to Operating temp?
3. Is there a 60K service?
4. High idle at random could that be Intake Gasket? or should we wait till it happen all the time?
5. miss shifts or double shifting is this an issue to worry about or is it the tranny just messing around?

One last thing..
6. Car will not start randomly. Tunthe key and the egine cranks maybe 1/2 a revolion, then stops. Wait about 10 minutes and it will start trying every 2 minutes. This has happen hot and cold. no reason why.

The maintenance book in the owners manual will give you the recommended services and the mileages that they are supposed to be done.

The car not starting is most likely the ignition switch. The passlock senosr is fouling up. Replacing it shoudl solve the problem. If it does not then it is the BCM that needs to be replaced.

If the scan tool that was used is not a good enough one the informatinn from it can be suspect. That said the ION should reach closed loop fairly quickly. If it is actually not going into closed loop then you may have an oxygen sensor problem. Proper diagnosis should be done before condeming any parts though. The random high idle may be part of the closed loop concern.

if you do replace the pass lock sensor, you will need to ither towe it to the dealership, or buy the part and have them install it." or just have it all done there" after replaceing it you have to relearn the passlock sensor. "usally done here at a dearership" we hook it up to a pc and tell it what to do.. there is a rare occation that we can just let the key on for 30 min, 3x. and it will start.

I swapped out the ATF using a Tires Plus machine. My mileage was 20,000. That old ATF was disgusting! I should have done that job at 15,000 miles.

I recommend going to a transmission shop, ask them to get full synthetic ATF that meets T-IV, and then get the power flush.

That MIGHT cost $300.
