Angry Fuel Filter

I have a 2004 Saturn Ion 3 SE 2.2 and I'm coming up on 79,000 miles and I'm going to be replacing the fuel filter myself. I bought the filter and located where the filter is however I'm having a very difficult time unhooking the lines. I was told there is a special tool to remove the lines. There are the 2 light blue "buttons" and the 2 dark blue "buttons". I've pushed them in and tried pulling the line off but it won't come off! Any suggestions out there on how to remove the fuel filter from start to finish? Thanks for any much needed help!

Welcome to the Board.

You will need a fuel line disconnect tool to get the single line off without damaging any thing. Most parts stores that sell tools as well should have a set of disconnect tools for a decent price.
As for the other two lines give them a squirt of WD-40, push the lines to the filter and push the "buttons" and wiggle work the lines free. If you have compressed air give the lines a blast to blow out any road dirt/gravel as well.

Thanks a lot Ssicarman! You're the 2nd person to tell me to spray some WD-40 on there as well. The funny thing is Autozone didn't have a tool for this kind of job. So I'm hoping Napa or some other parts store will have it. I appreciate your input and time to reply.

This is the set that I have.

Amazon.com: Air Conditioning and Fuel Line Disconnect Tool Set - 37000, by Lisle - 37000 - Lisle - LIS37000: Automotive

Second smallest will get the single metal line off. Put it around the line and slide it to the filter to release the hold in clips and then slide the filter off with the tool still in place.

Thnking on the other two lines (it has been a while since I have replaced one of the fuel filters) the button may just be a push on one side to move it over to release it. Play with them to see what will work.
