Default Rotor question..

Alright, I've searched and I'm not finding what I'm needing.

Situation is as such: Just paid off the 04 Ion. Now the payments can go for some fun!

I've set my sights on the brake system first. I've seen tale of rear disks, so that's where I'll search next, but I'm wondering if the larger rotors off the Redline will fit onto the standard Ion.

I would guess that it would require replacing a caliper mount, but I know this isnt always the case.

Am I just missing this in a search or has it not come up?

ION sedans have a 4 lug flange, and ION Redlines have a 5 lug flange. That would be the first thing that has to change to accept those big disks. Next, you'd need new wheels that have 5 holes for the wheel studs.

seems like there has to be an easier way...

There is only one upgrade I can see that will not be a pain. Stainless Steel Braided Brake Hoses cost about $100, and are compatible with all the stock equipment. Unfortunately, I don't know how much better braided stainless brake hoses are.

Wow..I didnt know about the 5 lug design...had I paid some attention, I could have avoided that all together.

Silly me.

Converting my Bronco from 5 lug to 8 wasnt really that big of a deal, come to think of it....

My understanding is that getting the ION sedan to have 5 lugs in front will involve swapping out the wheel flange, but will the inner flange have the same spline pattern as CV joint? I really wonder, considering that the redline has more torque, and IIRC, a different transmission.

Converting the rear might not be so bad. Buy the semi-independent suspension off a redline complete with everything on it. As a bonus, you'll end up with a stiffer rear swaybar.
