depends on what your goals are, and what you have to work with honestly. most cars have a lot of potential, you just need to find and unlock it with the proper skills and ability.

you should always explore all other methods of getting rid of a car before trading it in

Well a 2.4L ION is a bloody nice car........stock to stock it's quicker then a 2.2L. One can also buy the HPTuners for the 2.4L, add the Redline injectors and it'll run mid to low 15's I understand that would include a cold air-intake. I hear high 14's with a 5 speed. Not a rocket by no means but not to bad.

My Silver 2006 2.4L auto runs 15.9's one after another with the Fujita intake and a fart can muffler. My wifes 100% stock 2007 2.4L auto runs 16.2's. My white 2007 2.4L has not been on the track yet, it will when the temps start dropping under 85 come October. A 50 shot of juice will get your 2.2L moving pretty good. 75 shot will get you better numbers then a Redline.

With that I don't understand why you would ask us if you should get a new car. It's all about what you want to do. It's all about what mods you can do without paying someone to do them for you. It's all about the money your willing to spend. It's all about just why, when, and where you want your car to be fast. For every day driving my ION's work real well and deliver good gas mileage. When I go to the track this winter I'll be using a bit of juice in my white ION just to see what it does. I could care less if someone is faster cause someone always will be.
