Just bought an '03 for our 16 yo daughter. She is thrilled, and so are we to not be the taxi service any more.

But, in driving this car for the last week while my Vibe is in the body shop, I've noticed -- and can feel -- a thumping sound in the underbody as it goes over the potholed Michigan roads.

Some of the sound went away when we fixed a dislodged stabilizer bar link in front, but much of the rest still seems to be there. Anyone else have this? Is it just endemic to the Ions of this era? Did you fix it and how? Can't believe anyone would sign off a car that made that much noise.

Other than that, no complaints, smooth and quiet on the freeway, decent power for a 4-cyl and seems like good mileage (so far).

Have a look at the front lower control arm rear bushings. The tend to come apart and let the control arm bang on the engine frame.
