Default 2006 VUE

Just thought I would post my VUE story for anyone that might be interested. This is my third Saturn. I started with the little wagon back in the late 90's and upgraded to the large wagon in 2001. In the fall of 2005 my 6 cylinder wagon started having minor problems. Uneven treadwear, tail lights going out all of the time, then the speedometer stopped working at random. At the start of December we took it into the local dealership and had them take a look at it. Total cost of repairs was going to run somewhere around $700 and that didn't include putting on new tires. My wife had taken the car in and called me from the dealership with the news. She happened to mention that the 06 VUEs looked nice and maybe we could just do a trade in instead of going through the hassles with repairs. I told her to talk to a salesman and see what could be worked out. Long story short, we bought a cyprus green 06 VUE, 4 cylinder with manual transmission. They gave us just over 6K for the '01 wagon that had only 36k on it, but didn't take anything off for the repairs that were due. We drove out with our new car that afternoon with no money down. While driving it in December I noticed I was only getting 16.5 MGP city, almost 25% lower than advertised. We took it in and they said there was no problem. I ran a third tank though the car and came in at 16.5 again. By this time it was January 2nd of '06. I called the dealership and told them I wanted to use the 30 day trade in option of my contract. I had already located another VUE at a nearby dealership that was exactly the same with some extra bling (side curtain airbags, chrome roof rack, chrome skid plates, upgraded rims). I got no hassle at all. It took them 3 days to get the new vehicle on the lot, I signed the new paperwork and drove off with my second new car in a month. This one clocked 24 MPG city from the first tank of gas. We recently drove it to Ohio from Philadelphia for Easter with the family and the car handled the drive beautifully. For most of the trip I put the cruise control on 75 mph and it never faltered or complained even going up the grades in the mountains of Western PA. We got 29.5 MPG highway for the trip and on occassion I pushed the VUE up to 88 mph just to see how it handled it. The 4 banger never had a problem. While I miss having a 6 cylinder engine, most of my driving is very local city driving and the 4 cylinder handles that with better mileage. I can absolutely say if anyone is interested in the VUE, go for it.

Sounds like you've got a nice Vue now. The previous Vue may have just not been broken in yet - the Ecotecs often get lower than normal economy during the break-in period, then it suddenly improves. Still, I'd be nervous if it were near the end of the no-hassle return period and it hadn't improved, so I can't blame you a bit for swapping Vues (especially with the extra features on the new one ) Sorry to hear of your trouble with the LW - they seem like nice cars, but so many seem to be also full of gremlins that cause random problems...

The funny thing about the LW was that it performed flawlessly up until the last few months. I am sad to see Saturn leaving the station wagon market behind, as I liked the wagons. Our salesman at Saturn told us that after they had fixed the problems with the wagon we traded in they were doing a standard compression test on the engine when it blew a cylinder. The engine was a total loss. I guess my wife and I picked a very good time to trade it in.
