95 SL2 Tach not functioning

NOTE: Looked for other threads, but most tach threads seemed to be about jumping tachs. Also looked through the sensor list and didn't find anything.

Recently purchased a 95 SL2 daily driver (manual). Speedo works fine, but tach shows no response whatsoever. Seems like this would be due to a sensor or loose electrical connection... Anyone have any ideas of where to start looking?

If i remember right, this usually means a gear is bad in the tach. I think you can buy a kit to fix it on ebay.

Welcome to the Board.

The tach is all electronic. I would tend to think that the tach it self is bad. Unless you have had the instrument cluster out recently giving the chance of damaged wiring then you are likely looking at replacing the tach.

The car has been sitting for some time and was not running when it was parked. So, it's difficult to know whether something could have been tampered with. I know that the radio was tampered with, and there is evidence from removing some of the panels that they have definitely been removed before. However, I have no idea how long this has been a problem since this car is new to me.

I was hoping for a more simple fix, but if it's a bad tach-- that's just what it is!

It isn't necessary, just nice to have. Thanks for the suggestions.
