Unhappy 96' SL1 Transmission trouble

I was on my way home today and as I was shifting through the gears it suddenly became very difficult to get the gears to shift. I would have to force them in from 2nd to 5th. 1st gears is impossible to get in unless the car is sitting still and not running. Clutch is spongy and pulses visibly as the car travels. Got the car home and now I just want to know what I am facing as far as repairs go.

Welcome to the Board.

Normally if the clutch pedal is engaging low to the floor it is hydralics and high in the travel it is mechanical. So you can judge that. With you saying that there is a pulsation in the pedal I would suspect that there is a machanical problem with the pressure plate, clutch disc, release bearing and or the flywheel.
You are looking at replacing the clutch parts at the very least. There is a chance of the hydraulics as well but I suspect that most of the problem is in the plate and or disc.

Easy things first. Check you cables. Make sure they are seated properly and no clips have come off of them.

However the fact you cant get into 1st gear at all, alone says your pressure plate has had it. I agree with Ssicarman in that a new clutch assembly is in order

Sounds like a similar problem I had once. Turned out to be the slave cylinder broke...
