Default 99 sl shifting issue

I just picked up a 99 sl with the 5 speed 1.9 driveline. It shifts into first hard sometimes and I am thinking it is something in the linkage.....I dont hear the noise you usually get with a bad syncro is why I think that. I was hoping that you saturn experts could help a "not much of mechanic guy" out with some advice....I thank you all in advance for any tips or advice....Also...once its in gear it runs out fine with no noise or slipping or other issues....Its just getting into first....thanks guys....Nick.

Sometimes I have the same problem, I just let out and push back in on clutch. My clutch is good and no creep issues.

Hard geting into first specifically usually indicates warn pressure plate fingers. Since you dont know who drove the car before you or how well they drove stick, it could very well be your problem.

Thanks for the advice on the pressure plate fingers..Would you replace the pressure plate if it was yours or would you look for any other issues first? I was curious if it could just be a linkage issue....Is that possible?

I would look into other issues also. Maybe put in Mobil 1 ATF Synthetic. That has had good reviews for improved shifting. Also, how is the shifting with the car off? Smooth or rough? What about into the higher gears? Are they hard to get into also?
