Default About header wrap.

Bought some fiberglass header wrap recently and I was talkin to one of my friends and he said that header wrap will cause deteriation(sp???) to the header quicker due to it trapping in most of the heat in and around the header. Just would like to know if anybody has had any problem like this or anything?

i think i've heard that it can possibly crack your header, but i don't remember why. maybe something about expanding and contracting... and that it holds heat in. i dunno.

I don't really think it's about holding the heat in. That actually helps keep your engine cooler and allows the heat to go out your exhaust. Why do you think ceramic coating is so great? What it can actually do it trap moisture and rust out your header quicker.

The whole point of wrapping the header is to keep the hot exhaust hotter, longer. When the exhaust exits the block it's nice and hot, when it enters the header it cools down and becomes denser. The change in temperature can cause an obstruction. Thus, if you can keep the exhaust hotter for a longer period and let it cool slower you wouldn't encounter the supposed obsctruction due to the "sudden" pocket of dense exhaust that has to be moved out of the way.

The problem with wrapping the header to keep the exhaust hot is just that; the hot exhaust stays hot and the temperature within the header can be hot enough to cause failure to the header itself. That would be a bad thing....
