| Can't start car. Alarm going off. I have a 1992 SL2 with an auto tranny. This morning I tried to start the car. Nothing. The battery is good. I tried to jump it without success. While inside the vehcle I can hear three beeps then two clicks. The clicks are coming from two relays under the dash which I believe are flashers because the lights are flashing with every click. I found an alarm control box under the dash. I apparently set of the alarm but I don't have a remote to disarm it. I didn't even know it had a security system when I bought it. Does anyone know how to disable it? I tried disconnecting the power from it, but it still won't let me start the car.

| Sounds like it has a starter kill when the alarm is triggered. Look for a toggle switch with wires coming off it that will be the valet switch. When you turn the key to the on position turn the switch to the opposite position. You "should" be able disarm the alarm that. If not just rip the whole alarm system out. |

I tried the switch. It didn't work. I tried disconnecting all the wires from the brain of the alarm and that didn't work either. I tried disconnecting the starter from the alarm and connecting it directly to the ignition. That got the starter turning a little. Now it sounds like my battery is weak. Someone is on the way now to give me a jump. I'll let you know how that turns out. Thanks for your input.

I tried the jump. That didn't work. The starter is turning now but it's not firing up. Could an alarm also disable the ignition. Someone told me they had a similar problem and found out the alarm went off when his car battery got weak. The last time it started the battery sounded strong. I'm trying to find another option before I try to find a ride to go buy a new battery.

| Have you had this car long? Can you ask the previous owner about the aftermarket system? |

I've had the car for about three months. I don't have the contact info for the previous owner. He only had the car for about a year. The alarm system looks like it's been there for a while. I'm about to get my battery tested and but a new one if I have to. Do you know anywhere I can get a wiring diagram for my vehicle so I can rewire it if I disconnect the alarm. Or is there a way I can take out the alarm without having to rewire anything.

| Well if you take the alarm out, unfortunately you will have to do some rewiring, shouldnt be too bad though. Just follow the alarm wiring to where it connects to the factory wiring harness, mainly the starter kill, might just be a fuel shut off, however there should be two wires that run through a normally closed set of dry contacts in the alarm, so just disconnecting the harness from the alarm will get you nowhere as it needs that set of contacts to complete the circuit. Get some butt-splices and heat shrink and the wires should go back together pretty easily. |

| Depending on what they had done, there could be various things that require the alarm's circuit...
Common interrupted circuits would include:
Starter, fuel-pump, and ignition.
Go under the dash and find the brain. If you notice any wires that are directly cut and connected to the brain, trace them to their origins and destinations. Re-connect them to their original connections. If a wire is simply T-tapped into a stock wire, don't worry about it.
Just remember, disconnect the battery before doing any work to the electronics of your car.
On another note, there's a handy "Quote" button on the right-hand side of each post. Rather than copying and pasting the post you wish to quote, just click the "Quote" button and it'll copy it for you. It also puts it in a nice box to show that it's quoted material.

The engine turns, but it's still not firing up. All the lights, the door locks, the radio and everything else works. I checked all the fuses and they are all good. Does anyone know if my car has a fuel cut-off switch anywhere? I once had a Ford Taurus that had a switch like that in the trunk. I feel like I forgot to do something. There's no extra wires hanging loose anywhere. Ideas? Anyone?
