Admitted?! I've never heard of some place admitting they tried cheating you!
The vast majority of shops and mechanics are, in my opinion, either incompetent, or cheatin' theives. Most either don't have the capability or do not want to fix what is wrong the first time, especially if it's something simple - they won't make much on it! I really hate the trial and error "mechanics". They don't really know what's wrong or don't know how or want to run a test to verify what's wrong so they they it's this part and charge you for the job and then you still have the problem and bring it back. Well since it didn't fix they problem, then it obviously wasn't the problem, so why do you have to pay for it? Shouldn't they give you your money back for that? and then fix what was really wrong and have you pay for that. Why do we have to pay for their incompetance? I think many do just to make more money. Well this hasn't happened to me for a long time as now I do all my own repairs. I have had a few emergency situations where I didn't have time and needed work done (on my truck) and they played trial and error and after two times in the shop I drove out only to still have the same problem and drove back and had the shop owner drive it and verify the problem. He didn't offer me any recourse! I could tell he really didn't care, it was closing time and he wanted to leave. Seems no mechanics have pride in their work or skills today. After two such repairs, where the customer had to rent a car while it was in the shop and seeing that it still wasn't repaired, I'd have given them my vehicle and not let them leave with theirs that wasn't fixed right. He didn't seem to have any problem with charging me twice and still not having fixed it. Sorry for the rant.
