| Catback Exhaust on SL1 Alright..
THE ONLY REASON i am considering the exhaust is to go in conjunction with the cold air intake i will be buying. I don't wan't my car looking like rice. I just want a muffler that makes some noise but, i don't wan't it looking/sounding ricey.
Any ideas?
Where can i go to get a system? Do you think it would be under 300?

| well 3 options I know of (and probably not all of the possible options): HKS cat-back system, Thermal cat-back system, or have a local shop do a mandrel bend custom system, and you pick out the muffler. 2 1/4" is good, 2 1/2" max without forced induction, or you'll lose power. |

| What do you think the price range will be for the system?

| For a local shop to do a mandrel bent system, I'd bring along $200 minimum. At the max, I'd estimate $300.
I paid $400 for my stainless steel mandrel bent J-Body cat-back dual exhaust system. Paid $15 for a 2.5" in/out Cherry Bomb. Add another $100 to have a local shop bend up a piece to fit over the rear suspension and weld everything together. Then I got another $75 from selling the remnants of the system on eBay. Here's a link to the full story with pics.

| There is more than the HKS and Thermal for already done systems. I know of one other, the SPS cat-back system and the Firepower one, but that you have to get welded together anyways and get a muffler. I would personally go with a custom made one at a muffler shop. Search around at places and get the best price. A body shop in my town just got a mandrel bender and started exhaust service, only mandrel bender in town, horah! I got a quote from him for $250 with a nice Dynomax muffler and $200 if I keep the muffler I got, which I will probably do, still in nice shape and sounds good. This also includes getting a Cherry Bomb glasspack welded in for the resonator. Sounds like the best option, I don't feel like paying 500 bucks for an already done system. |
