Default Excessive gas usage...HELP

ok soo...recently my '92 SC2 has been drinking the gas. I used to get bout 27 mpg. 2 full tanks ago, i managed 243.5 miles, which translates to bout 20.3 mpg with 87 grade fuel. so then i filled it up again with 87 grade fuel with STP fuel injector cleaner, however, i didn't get to calculate my mpg on this tank, but it wasn't more than 245 miles. so on this 3rd tank, i put in 93 grade fuel and got 227 miles on that tank which translates to bout 18.9 mpg. now my air filter isn't THAT dirty, somewhat, but not enough to kill my gas milage. tires are good, i'm checking the fuel filter this monday. is there anything else i could check bout this?
could my injectors be bad?

PCM coolant temp sensor and connector (for corrosion due to coolant leaking). Thermostat opening to soon.

ok, so what would a coolant temp sensor have to do with the car drinking the gas?

Use the search button

The ECTS is used by the PCM for many subsystems of the car including Air/fuel mixtures. When the stock resin sensor cracks the PCM usually makes the mixture much richer than is needed thus using more gas and decreasing gas milage. New sensors are brass and will not crack. 14.50 at the dealer.

Talking Excessive gas usage

They are right. I did not know this and they gave me a crash course. I had overheating and high RPMs along with excessive usage. Changed out the resin one with brass and bingo...All problems gone.

ok i got the new sensor put on. i noticed my car starts up better now. i would sometimes have to give a tap on the gas pedal to get it started. but i haven't had to do that yet. i will post a update later on if the sensor solved a few problems.

ok the new sensor did not help out with the gas milage. should i replace the fuel filter next? maby get new srark plug wires, change the oil? something like that? need to know cause the $55-$60 coming out of every pay check to fill up is killing me. could it be that i have to put '93 grade gas in it? this car runs like crap on 87.

A full tune up may be in order. With a '92 you have the old style filter. It may be time to get a new one Also what is the temperature of the car? It should be at 1/2 as per the guage for normal operating temperature. I can post a full tune up list if you like.

Also please note you have 2 sensors. You need to replace the one with the 2-wire sensor.
