Default Food for thought (Intakes)

I had a AEM short ram on my sl2. then i got a Dr.Speedy CAI and it was great. I felt a big difference in performance. sounded ALOT more ricey and high pitched. thought it was great.

Then..

It started to pour. I had no bypass valve. it sucked.
I would pass people left and right at high speeds and they would give me the thumbs down for my car sounding "really crappy". I though - what the heck?

Then..

I decided to switch back to the AEM short ram intake. First notice - its quiet. Well i could deal with that. What I didnt notice was a performance decrease. The margin for power that was lost with the switch back was so low I can not feel it. Have new video of the sound of my car on 80mph flybys and it sounds WAY more high performance than my Dr. Speedy did. I can also drive in the rain, and fit my Otto-R (POS) strut bar back on.

Just a thought for the skeptics. CAIs are not what they are hyped up to be.

1) if it's a cold air intake, and it's got two pipes, then you can put any manufacturer's bypass on it, it doesn't have to be AEM

2) you WANT it to sound ricey? loud i can see, but less growl and more buzz?

3) mentioning that the SRI is quieter than the CAI is fine, although my AEM sorta hisses loudly at idle, but then you say on the flyby it sounded WAY more high performance? is this a typo?

4) manual or automatic?

woa goldie whats all this? Why you attackin me when you know what I was getting at? Its a manual and dur u can use any bypass valve - why did I mention this? because when you slap on a bypass valve you lose the !! 1hp !! and with the whole !! 7 !! hp your gettin off of a cold air intake it really doesnt make a difference using the short ram intake and only getting !! 4 hp!!. Ill provide a video.

Videos on Youtube just get a free password and username to watch the video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOnwHnUG6Bs

If its not uploaded yet check back later. Watch it a couple times and you can begin to understand why I took the CAI off. also, after taking it off my car still got to 108mph just as fast (if not quicker because I could hear myself think). My gas milage went up 3.4mpg after that full tank too and thats still flooring it everywere just like in the video

i wasn't attacking you at all dude chill out lol

i was just confused because you said you said u had a CAI and no bypass, so, why didn't u just get one? was the only reason other than rain that you wanted to powerful sound of a WAI (why you switched back to the AEM short ram?)

usually, CAI's will provide a deeper sound and less hiss and usually will give u more power than a short ram, that's all i was saying haha, relax

Maybe this is proof that AEM is the only way to go. I know others say these cheaper ebay ones are just as good and actually have bigger piping so probably better. Well I know for a fact that the AEM ones are tuned to give you the most and the bends are the way they are for a reason. I have had both the AEM short ram and AEM cai on my SC2 when it was completely stock. First I used the short ram I have laying around, decided to put it on the day after I bought the car. I liked it, but decided to get the cai and wow, there was a huge difference. First, I noticed it hissed really loud, especially while cold and had a nice deep growl, not this ricey sound you speak of. Second was the huge jump in performance I noticed between the two. I drive in the rain all the time and all I do is avoid major puddles and haven't even hardly got the filter moist. I check it frequently just to make sure and it's barely even dirty.

yes..........and if its dirty, just goto your nearest autozone and buy the K&N Recharger Kit. its best to have 2 AEM air filters.
