Default Fuel Gauge Question

Hi all. I have a 2002 SL1, 45k miles. Recently, my gas economy has been quite low. The gauge seems to indicate I am using more gas, i.e A 20 mile trip on the interstate cause the needle to move considerably down. Also when I start the ignition the needle is lower then where it was when I shut the engine off, or if I place the car in park, the needle will dip down slightly. Saturn put in a new fuel sending unit, it however has not fixed the problem. Any thoughts would be highly appreciated.

Not sure if it relates, but I just had my car serviced for a misfire in cylinder 1 and a high idle problem. The fuel problem had happened after I noticed the misfiring sound.

Thanks Again

Intake manifold gasket needs to be replaced.

You have a vacum leak bc the gasket is wrinkled or damaged. Very common on the Gen 3 SL1 models. Rare on the Sl2 models however. Take some brake cleaner to the intake manifold gasket near cylinder #1 and listen for the cars idle to change. This might also be the cause of your fuel milage problem (more than likely).
