| gas milage ok i have been checking my mpg every tank and the average seems to be 21 with a/c off and 20 with a/c on. now what would cause that even if i drive like a old man going 5 mph slower then the stated mph and not take off from red lights i still only get 24. my air filter is new my tire pressure is 33 front and 30 in the back and i just rotated my tire like a month ago and did not help my alimeant is perfect i can go over a mile with not touching the steering while depending on the road. and it has a stock exhoust and stock intake box.
ands that with a 96 sl2 mp7 tranny thats also all city milage |

| Bump your tire pressures up. Check your engine's compression.
So far I've been averaging 31.5 MPG with my '01 SC2, and I drive it hard. The lowest I've got was 25.5, and that was almost all 1/4 runs at the track. The best was 38.7, almost all highway. All I have is intake bolt-ons (CAI and throttle body), factory wheels and tires, factory MP3 transmission, and 80K miles to date.

| Describe your typical city driving... is it traffic lights every block with lots of waiting at red lights/in traffic? If so maybe 20~ is about right. Can you run a tank at highway speeds and test the highway gas mileage?
Have you checked for engine codes? A malfunctioning sensor keeping the fuel system in open loop would be my first guess. Might even be worthwhile to check the wiring over once, clean the battery posts, clean the ground wire from the under-hood fuse panel (that one's corroded and caused problems with 2 of my s-series)
FWIW, I get 32~mpg in mixed driving in my 01 SC2 5spd, my wife gets 28 city in her 01 SC2 auto.

| typical driving is obeying the limits maybe like 5 over the speed limits maybe some jack rabbit off the lights. lights are about couple of miles a part unless there is like 2 between work. ( i work 6 miles away) also though i am less then a foot above sea level if that matters. last time i went on the highway i belive i got 26 with ac on |

| I've been getting around 23mpg with my 1995 SL2. mp7 tranny as well. The car has "learned" how i drive, and i go to school, work, walmart, everywhere. Its like.... 60% city, 40% highway. The highway part does have a lot of traffic lights though. |
