Default Gear noise 5 speed manual 1993 SW2

I have a 1993, twin cam, manual 5 speed Saturn SW2. The manual gearbox has become progressively noisier over the last four years, esp. in 2nd through 4th gears, but really in all gears. It is particularly bad on acceleration. There is no noise when the clutch is fully pushed in. Is this bad? In the last week it has gotten noticibly worse, making all kinds of ominous gurgly noises. Since the car is only worth $1000, is it time to get a new car?

The exterior looks great, the interior is OK except the headliner fabric is separating and sagging. The car does have 140,000 miles on it though and it looks like the transmission is about to die. I was going to call a charity and give it away. If anyone needs parts off it before it goes, here are the particulars: it has AC, power windows and locks, cruise control, rear defrost and wiper, exeryting works (except the transmission, which sounds really, really bad).

I'm in Falls Church, VA, which is 10 miles West of Washington, D.C.
If I donate it, I can justifiable claim a value of about $500 for a deduction, which is worth maybe $100 to me. So $100 will do it. I'd like to keep the battery though- I just bought it a month ago. The only other work done on it recently were the rear disk brakes. The SW2 is turquoise green (I see many that color) with a light grey interior. Everything works on it (AC, power windows, etc.). The engine uses oil (a quart between oil changes), but doesn't seem to be leaking or smoking so that's a mystery to me! It gets great gas mileage. Think it over, I wont call the Slavation Army until next week.

Since I already have a full size car (1900 Buick Park Avenue), I'd like my replacement for the Saturn to be a reliable, fuel efficiant late model compact. Any suggestions?

your slave cylinder and or master cylinder for you clutch may not be working properly, causing rubbing on the clutch. could damage the flywheel. Something to consider. New cylinders only cost $140. get pre-bled kit, it's the only one that you can do yourself
