Question hesitating saturn

Hey There new to this forum owner of 1993 saturn sc1 recently been having issues with it. When driving at cruising speed car runs fine, but when I slow down to make a turn and step on the gas car hesitates and sputters and sometimes has a very hard time to get going. The check engine light comes on and when I pull the codes it gives me 45 which says the oxygen sensor senses too rich. Would appreciate any advice on what to check or how to check the o2 sensor.

Welcome to the Board.

The first thing that you want to check is the PCM coolant temp sensor. Code 45 is usually a sign of another problem rather than a problem with the o2 sensor. The PCM temp sensor is the two wire one on the back lower middle part of the head. Check the connector for corrosion and the sensor nose (the part in the coolant) for cracking. Any corrosion in the connector replace it and the sensor. Any sign of cracking on the sensor tip replace it.

We had this exact problem with our 01. Drove us nuts until we asked a friend who has owned Saturns for ages. He laughed at us and pointed us in the right direction. Its rather misleading but not a really hard fix if you have some know how.
