Default Interchangable EGR Valves?

i have a saturn 2001 sl2b dohc 1.9 automatic

125,000
now needs new egr. (cleaned it a few years ago but it is stuck good now)

(got an egr ses dtc)

i went to a junk yard and pulled a "look alike" from a saturn 1997.

i swapped it with my broken one. the ses light went out and the cars performance returned and the mpg went back up.

is it ok to use a 1997 egr on a 2001 ?

if not will this one work for 26.00$
why are some over 150$ ! ?

There is an issue with different EGRs and the flow rate of them. I forget what year they changed. Run the one you got until you have a problem and hit the wrecking yard for one from the same year as your car.

thanks
but you sound confident that i will have a prob?
and for 26$ at the web site i linked... and seeing other forum members parts for sale near that price ...should i step up to a new part?
seems odd i have a part on my car that is older than the car itself and is making it run so well

but if i keep looking i bet i will find a 2000-2001 sl
then I'm wondering if it has to be an sl2 or can it be any other 2000-2001

it looks like they changed at 99/2000 as the part numbers change at 2000 and cover 2000-2001

there are different part numbers and prices for units pre-2000

I'm going to check the specs on flow

the car runs so well i am suspicious

26$ is one hell of a good price and then some for an EGR. At this point I would still stick with the junkyard one you have until/if you get a P0401 code for improper flow. There is a TSB for this code but it also states that "some customers" may have a SES light for this code. So basicly don't spend more money on the EGR until you need to.

I have a 2001 sl2 1.9, and I need to replace my EGR.

I'm trying to figure out why there is such a price disparity with EGRs.

Locally they want around 150.
Here I found it for 75 for a Delphi and 17 for a standard. Is the quality difference that great?

I keep looking at it wondering if they are the correct part for my vehicle. Any opinions?

edit:
Also, what is Vin *7* ?

Welcome to the Board.

It is the engine code number in the VIN. Eighth digit is the engine. 7 is the DOHC engine. 8 is the SOHC.
