Default Questions...

I'm a do it myself kind of guy. Anything I can do to my car i will do even if it looks real hard and thats how have been learning more about cars.

Still my knowledge is limited when it comes to some things so (finally onto my questions) would you say i am burning a fair amount of oil if I just put on my new sps muffler yesterday and just today the inside is allready filled with dark carbon deposit? I'm talking dark black like i've used the muffler for years. Oil levels are good, looked at the throtal body and it looks clean...what can i do to lower the build up level of the carbon?

Second question, i read somewhere (although i couldn't find the exact thread) that 3rd gen headlights are swappable with 2nd gen with little to no modification. Is this true?

Ok anyone who can answer these, thanks.

The exhaust thing might be normal, dunno.

The headlight thing - the swap is pretty easy. What model you have? SL or SC?

If you don't already have one, install a catch-can onto your PCV system. Read more here. This will lower the amount of oil that your engine sucks into the combustion chamber. Less oil burning, and hopefully less black sooty substance in your tailpipe.

The 2001+ SCX headlights will fit onto a 1997-2000 SCX without much issue so long as you get the brackets included. You won't need to change the hood or anything like that, just the light housings. Though if you wanted to, you could swap the hood out.

The black in you tip is not normal. My SL does the same thing, I can wash it out and give it about 2 hours and it's full again, and burn ALOT of oil. My SC2 doesn't seem to burn anything and it took almost a month before I noticed even a sign or anything inside my tip. But then I washed it and all was good again. A rebuild might be your only solution to it, or just be like me and live with it.

Btw, how do you like the SPS muffler?

mah...rebuild I dont think is necessary im sure I can figure out the oil burning problem another way...it's not that bad anyways it may just be that I put on some highway miles right after I installed the muffler. So I'll wipe it down..maybe do another oil change even though im not due and drive her light as possible, install the catch can and see what happens. she only has 88,000 miles

The muffler is nice though. The sound isn't bad, not more than a few decibals louder than the muffler i had with the hole in it and my wai combined.

Untill I get my piping fit and replaced all the muffler is good for is inspection and to look pretty. although i dont even think it looks that good (the polished tip at least)

My SL1 burned a quart and a half of oil during 2000 miles when it only had 70,000 miles on it. Just all depends on how the car was taken car of before you had. It still ran fine but burned oil like mad. You can try the catch can and see if you notice anything, you can also try a MMO piston soak, that seemed to help mine a little bit.
