Default Stearing wheel squeaks when turned

Hello,

The stearing wheel squeeks when it is turned on our S-Series couple. We took it to a Saturn dealer and they did not find anything wrong with it. Is there something possible wrong with the steering column or does it need to be lubricated? If it is the latter, where does it need to be lubed?

Welcome to the Board.

What year?
Where does it sound like it is coming from, top of the steering column or the bottom?
Fairly loud or can it not be heard if the radio is at a fairly normal volume?

2005. It is coming from the top of the steering column near the stearing wheel. It can be heard when the radio is on at a normal volume. It is not really even a sqeaking sound. More like two pieces of rubber rubbing together.

I think I would still want to check that out, better safe than sorry. Have you taken it anywhere else for a second opinion?

you, could try pushing back "towards the dash" to see if it stops, some of the s-series have a issue with the colum shroud being to close to the back of the steering wheel..

If the car is a 2005 then you are in the wrong section of the board. you posted in the S-series.

So---Year, model and engine?????

If it is an ION or VUE then if the noise is a rubber on metal type of noie then it is likely the intermediat steering shaft boot. This is at the bottom of the steerig column. If it is more like a palatic on plastic rubbing noise then it could be the SIR coil (part of the air bag system) which is at the top of the column just under the steering wheel.
