does 97 saturns sc2s stick dual overhead have timing belts

No. All Saturn S-Series, 1991-2002 use timing chains.

they are usually good for the life of the car with maintenance being the variable. Those who do not to oil changes on time or let the oil get low constantly will see chain failure quite early on.

All in all...Change your oil on time and you should be fine especially with such low miles

so its a timing chain not a timing belt a mechanic told me i had a timing belt and it should be replaced

Your serpentine belt should be changed. That is the black belt you can see when looking in the engine bay on the passengers side of the motor. However its not done often. Usually an inspection of it should be done at each oil change (3k) looking for cracks and other visual signs of wear.

The serpentine belt is different than the timing chain.

thank you i just had that replaced 3 weeks ago, now im going to tell that mechanic there is not timing belts on theses cars

If he tell you there is a timing belt....dont ever go back to that mechanic again!
