Default Uh oh, help!!!

I just picked up a 91 SC the other day, and I was installing my Kenwood mp-922 deck. I tested the wire connections and turned the key, and the deck worked. Perfect! Then I shoved the wires back into the dash and down behind the AC box, since there's no room for the wires directly behind the head unit. I screwed it in, replaced the center console, and tried to turn the key again. This time though, the radio didn't turn on.

I unscrewed everything and took the deck out to find out the tape had come off of the ground wires. So I rewrapped the wires, retaped them up, and tried it again, but to much agony the Kenwood didn't start again! Now it seems like I have no power. Anyone know what this could be???

Default get out

a circuit tester and get to checking the power supply input wires, and do you have an inline fuse??? you may have just blown the fuse with the wires shorting out.

there is a remote possiblity that you may have fuxored the deck itself if the current got routed to the wrong bare wires when you did the stuffing thing and turned the key back on.

a little troubleshooting and you should be good to go again. good luck.

check your radio fuse in the fuse box...the inline fuse on the deck

if you're going to just tape wires you better make sure they're absolutely not coming undone, the proper way would be to use butt connectors and crimp the wires together

a digital multimeter or a test light will be your friend

Yeah, you really have to watch the tape. I had a bare spot get exposed on some of the wiring behind my HU and it was throwing a fuse which also caused a lack of rear lights (brake, turn signal, etc) and a lack of cluster illumination. Have to make sure nothing is exposed, and nothing is pinched.

Default Wires

Crimping and those things you scew your wires into work the best, you can find everthing you need at a hardware store.

Those things you screw your wires into are called wire nuts. And the best way to keep it all together is to solder it, and then tape it all up. Use good electrical tape too and I would say tape at least an inch over the insulation on both sides and wrap at least twice to insure it wont come undone.

I think the radio quit. It was a fuse in the underhood fuse box - a 10 amp one. I forget the exact one. If you look in the car's manual, it lists the fuses and the things that are on them so you can notice what quit and see which fuse would cause that combo of things to quit.
