Default 96'SL to 99'SC Engine swap Questions

Here's the situation:
My 99 SC threw the piston, rings, and the rod from the cylinder closest to the tranny throught the front of the engine block. I have an engine from a 96 SL that runs great. Can I swap the 96 engine in to my 99SC and in doing so, can I do it using my 99 tranny with the 96 engine (the 96tranny has syncronization issues). Will I have to make any modifications to the engine compartment to make the 96 engine mount correctly? I know I will have to use the 96 ECU. Any and all info wuold be greatly appreciated.

It should bolt right in. Not too hard from what I understand.

easy. in a word, yes, drop in job
ok listen, allot of people with out allot of experience in swaps talk smack about interchangeability, in 99 they ONLY CHANGED THE EXHAUST side of the head, so, your 99 intake and injectors will BOLT RIGHT UP to the 96 head, you will need to use the 96 exhuast manifold since your 9 bolt 99 wont fit, but use the 96 and the downpipe will BOLT RIGHT UP (after 00 this wont work, you have to use the 00 downpipe and manifold to compensate for length diffrences) but the 99 downpipe will bolt RIGHT to the 96 exahust manifold.
thats it, easy as pie, drop the 96 in, put your 99 intake with injectors on, THEY DID chnage some of the plugs on the sensors on the back of the motor between 96 and 99 SO check the plugs on the sensors on the back of the motor, the blocks were the same so if need be, swap over any sensors to accomdate your 99 harness.
i cant recall if the knock sensor came into play 99 or 00, if it was 99 then youll have an extra sensor and a ses light but, i think the knock sensor didnt come out till 00 (sorry, its early and i need more java...lol)

Now, Will I still have to use the 96'ECU or can I keep the 99' Computer in there?

In 1998 Saturn went to the returnless fuel system, I'm not sure how well you'd be able to match up a 96 to a 99. Another issue could be the throttle body sensors, TPS, and the IAC plugs will most likely differ.

Other than those two things, I'd have to agree with what Joey said.

you keep the 99 intake manifold, so the returnless stays and throttle body. the only thing really being swapped is the engine itself with the exhaust manifold.
