Hey Dood

Is the car ya want an Auto or 5 Speed Tranny?

If it's an Auto or 5 SpeedwWatch out if ya spin/smoke your front tires too much, you could cause the Differential Pin (Diff Pin) to come loose.

In an AutoTranny your Diff Pin then can rub on the inside of the Tranny Shell which casues a crack and all of the Tranny Fluid comes out and lucky if you only have to replace the Tranny Shell. What coul also occur is that once the Diff pin comes out, your Diff will SLAM into the inside Tranny Shell and cause a GAPING HOLE. Then ya gotta get a replacement Tranny Shell and most likely get the Tranny Re-built.

In a 5 Speed. I don't know if the small amount of the Tranny Fluid will come out. If the Diff Pin comes out, it can cause the Diff to SLAM into the inside Tranny Shell and cause a GAPING HOLE. Then ya gotta get a replacement Tranny Shell and most likely get the Tranny Re-built.

I have gone through 5 Auto Trannies. Of the 5 Tranny Failures, I have had to get I believe 3 Tranny Shells, 2 Vavle Bodies, 3 Complete Rebuilds. Then I got smart, had the Auto Tranny swapped out for a 5 Speed and got the Diff Pin Welded in place.

diff pin failure is pretty much the same in auto or manual. If you avoid spinning the wheels, it's usually not an issue, or you can do the welded diff pin and not have to worry as much about it.

If you can borrow the car and drive it for a while, that could help. Check the oil when you start, run a tank of gas though the car, then check the oil again. Some Saturns develop oil burning issues. A little isn't a big deal, but you'd hate to get one of the few that burn a quart every thousand miles or so. If that checks out, should be a great car!
