Default bodykit questions

ok so i got a 2001+ apc bodykit for my 02 sc1 its unpainted..... my saturn is red, and i was told by saturn where my uncle works it would be 700 dollars for them to mount and paint the kit.... now is it just me or is that way to high priced? i was thinking at the most to just get it painted would be like 200 bucks cuz i can mount the kit myself. so what would you all do or what have you done? just take it to a local body/paint shop somewhere? and what kinda prices do you think i should be looking at to get this kit painted? thanks for all your help

Yup, just take it to a body shop. The dealer won't do it themselves anyways, they will take it somewhere to get it painted. In my experience, a body shop will do a better job at it too.

just remember with painting cars you get what you pay for.if you decited to get a kit then im guessing you got it to make your car look better so do not cheep out on the paint because you can tell the diffrece between a 200 dollar paint job and a 500 dollar paint job, but it is up to you.

you're just going to have the kit painted?

Isn't that gonna throw off the whole look? You know, the kit having a new paint job, while the other paint has been on there for a while?

$700 is an accurate price, considering a normal good paint job runs $2000-$3000.

well today i went to 3 local paint shops all legitamate and recommended to me by some people i know and not one gave me a price over 300 so i dont know what you people are taking about spending a rediculus amount like 700 on it just to have it painted. 200 bucks and ill have it by wed at the latest, very nice guy by the way. and yes i had just the kit painted im not gonna paint the whole car, it looks brand new just the way it is with the way i take care of my car it looks like it just came off the showroom floor.( i prolly wash it between 3-4 times a week im a freak like that ) pictures soon to come probably wed. or thursday

todays math lesson: the bodykit prolly is 1/10 of my entire car well say so even an average of 2000 and 3000 at 2500 for a good paint job would still put the paintjob for a 1/10 of a car at 250

That kinda math doesn't really work out in real life, though. Anyway, perhaps the reason it's cheaper than most expected is because it's not on the car, so nothing needs masked. I've not had much experience with painting before, though, so I don't really know.

It was funny, though... a friend was telling me about one of his customers (he works at a parts store) telling him about getting one of those Maaco "ambassador" paint jobs - the cheap ones you see advertised on TV. They didn't mask ANYTHING off. Not the glass, not the tires - NOTHING. Biggest waste of money.

Of course not!!! What do you expect for $200-$300?!

Bottom line with ANYTHING: you get what you pay for.

Jaxn: I'm not sure what shops you went to, but of course...every shop is different. When painting a kit or car, it all depends in what materials/paint that you use...painting is not a cut and dry process at all. Are they sanding down the kit, or shooting directly on top of it? How many layers of paint? How many layers of clear coat? Matter of fact, what kind of paint are they using? HOK? PPG? DuPont? Have you asked them all of this? Also, i'm not sure where you got that equation from, as everything is done by time of labor, which is curr. $60 per hour. Painting isn't hard..it's just the amount of time and preparation that takes up the most money
