Default downgrading tire size.. need help asap

There is a guy on a local racing forum selling both 14" and 13" wheels with hub caps for only $25.

If i downgrade size, will it make me any quicker?

i realize 13" is way small for our large wheel gap, i dont think id go 13, but i could stand a 14 til i get my new 17's in

14" = stock steelies. Smaller wheels mean higher RPM for equal speed, so it'd reduce top speed and move your shift points down on the rpm range. Why waste $100 on the equivilant of stock steelies?

oh, i thought stock was 15"

my bad.. okay, so say i go to the 13" ones, it comes with tires and everything.. for $25 thats not bad..

it's make me faster off the line right?

and how exactly would i change my spedometer to show the correct speed?

14" - Stock SOHC
15" - Stock DOHC

It won't be a noticeable difference, and the speedo difference will be minimal.

Save your money towards something useful. Please.

You'd have less rubber on the road, so no, you probably wouldn't be faster off the line. Although I guess I'm assuming you'd have enough power to break traction, which may be a bad assumption. Even then, it still wouldn't really do anything for you.

you're referring more to the overall diamater of the wheel/tire combination.

stock 15 alloys have 195/60's on them, I think the overall diameter is a little above 24"

if you went with 14's and a tire with a shorter sidewall than what would match, the overall diameter would be less than 24", and it would be the same basic thing as shortening your gearing since the wheel and tire will have to rotate less distance to make a full rotation.

it will also make your speedometer read that you are going faster than you actually are.

13's probably won't even clear the calipers and drums you have.

I have some honda civic 14's with drag radials on them for the track that are a little shorter than my original OD for that reason, and a lot of us have sawtooth alloys with drag radials or a sticky screw-around tire such as a falken azenis in 205/50 for the same reason.

have fun with your 15's or 14's while you can, those 17's are going to slow the car down off the line.
