Default fuel filter issue

Well I have the fuel filter disconnected at one end and partially at the other end. My prbolem is. I now have gasoline dumping when I try disconnect the bottom tube. My question is does the gas line run down hill or up hill from the tank? It looks like it isn't going to stop leaking gas along with the fact gas keeps leaking out of this connecting from the fuel filter. I can't get a glass to fit up inside that area to catch the gas. It's dumping on me and underneath the car. I don't feel very comfortable with have gas on me and under the car right now.

Did you release the pressure in the fuel line before taking it apart?

If you have one end disconnected, it's depressurized. Fuel will run out of the filter for a while, so don't let it fool you. You may get some more fuel if the front of the car is lower than the back.

BTW, I did the filter swap from the top. I never climbed under the car.

How did you reach the rear connectionon the fuel filter? But most importantly what are those green plastic fuel line lockers called that go on the end of the fuel lines and do I have to go to saturn for them or can I go to a kragen/autozone/pepboys store?

You can reach it from the top. Do you have ABS? THe module might be in the way. I don't have ABS so I couldn't tell you if it was. I reached my hand down there behind the filter and twisted the hose a little until I felt the tabs, then squeezed and pushed.

You can probably get them from the dealer. Your new filter should have come with them (I got my filter from the dealer and it came with everything). You can try to call the parts stores but they most likely won't have them.

The filter I got from kragens made by fram came with one for the connection up by the intake, but didn't have one for the base. So on the bottom I'm reusing the old one. Hopefully I will not end up with a leak there. WIth my luck I will. THose .50cent nuts that the filter mount is held in place with are a joke. I spent a lot of time trying to get the new filter and mount from fram bolted down because the stupid nuts didn't want to thread on. these weren't even really nuts. They were thin aluminum or something.

Yeah, they're cheap nuts. Like I said, the kit from the Dealer came with everything new. 2 new clips, cheap nuts, etc. You should be ok re-using the old clip if it's not broke.

ok, to catch up a bit. first off, FRAM makes very low quality filters. many tests have prooven this, so I am basing this on prooven fact, not opinion. this goes for air, oil, and fuel filters.

next up, when replacing a fuel filter, first turn the car off, pull the fuel pump fuse, then start the car and run it till it stalls. alot less fuel in the lines then. next, disconnect the lower connection with a bucket under it to catch the spillage. if fuel is still running out of the tank side, have someone keep a finger over the end. then disconnect the top and reassemble.
