Grrrrr!!! Just threw a rod!! As some of you may know, I have been struggling with swapping my car to dohc. Got 2 bad motors from a yard in New York, went to Joey and got a motor from him. Was having problems with massive oil burning and what appeared to be very bad sticky lifters. My friends dad who is a mechanic even told me that it didn't sound like a rod knock, and was coming from the head. Joey told me to soak the lifters in the Marvel Mystery Oil and then run it through the engine when all was back together. Worked alright and some of the noise went away. He told me to continue to drive it, and the oil burning got better, but there was still a loud knock/tap. I was afraid to drive it cuz it sounded so bad, but I figure he told me to, if it breaks he owes me a motor since it is warranted. So today not any more than an hour ago I was gonna take it out for a spin. I started it up, threw it in reverse and was gonna pull out of my garage. Suddenly the car shook bad and I heard a tink(like a bolt hitting the cement floor) and the car died with a huge cloud of smoke. Very frustrated, I walked to the front of the car and lifted the hood, only to blinded by another huge cloud of smoke. Once the smoke cleared, I immediately saw my problem. The #2 rod had broke at the bearing, completely broke the bolt and was shoved right out the block!!! There is a hole about 3 inches wide and 6-7 inches tall in the front of the block. This tatally sucks!! The fun part it that now I have pull out yet another motor, and its gonna be tons of fun getting in contact with Joey. I guess I'll be driving the old woody station wagon around for alot longer than I thought. Hmmmm, frustrating. |
