Default HID question

Ok, this is for all of you HID experts out there. I'm getting an HID upgrade kit, 6000k. For another $10, I can get 8000k. What's the difference between the two? Is 8000k much better, or is it just the color, or what is it? Which should I buy?

8000k is just a color thing.

You do realize, though, that HID conversions in existing headlights is illegal, and will piss other drivers off in a big way?

Hmm, not sure how much of a difference the HIDs are compared to the bright Xenon bulbs. I replaced my stock bulbs (low 55w, high 60w) to some Xenon bulbs (low 85w, high 100w). I wouldn't necessarily call it legal...

...but I haven't got pulled over. I've had them for over a year.

I've had them for probably a good year, if not longer. I have them on the stock harness, along with the low+high beam setup when I activate my brights. I haven't had any problem with fuses or wiring...well, I won't go into detail about the smoke coming from the column and fuse box when trying to wire up my relay for the all-4 high beams...but I can guarentee that had nothing to do with size of my bulbs. Just some trial and error wiring.

Well, if you're willing to eat the tickets and not complain about 'em, cool.

I did some digging around, and just to warn you (although you probably already know this) It is illegal to import, offer for sale, install or utilize retrofitted HID lighting in the US.

Big problem with this for your car especially, you have Hazed lights. This means that with a regular halogen bulb your lights are refracted from the front of the lens, aka the clear part up front. With an HID you will be throwing light off in every direction and not in the point or at the cutoff you need. Be sure to adjust your lights properly and you most likely will have to aim them very low.

Also be sure the bulbs are D2R, not D2S. D2R is for refraction lights like Acuras, while D2S bulbs are for projectors like BMW, Audi.

The only LEGAL way to go about this is with the loophole I found. Get a set of HID projectors from an Audi or BMW and retrofit them to your car or in your case a set of Acura headlights. The reason being is that they are legal and already adjusted to handle the HID light output without blinding people.

P.S.- I am the light god, just ask project, lol.

Don't those cost like $600 apiece for the lights? Then you're gonna need all the body fabrication to make them fit...

Just stick with the regular headlights, it's cheaper, easier, and much more legal.
