I did read the manual , and the manual said it's not necessary to check the fluid and gives no instructions as to how to check it.
My Saturn Ion does have a dipstick and its yellow in color and has a little gear insignia on top , it is however secured by a bolt. If you are wanting to check the fluid you will have to remove the bolt to unlock the dipstick , you will need a 12mm socket. I'm sure you already know the trans needs to be warmed up and running , I hope I have helped you.

Good luck I hope you don't burn yourself checking the fluid level. I wonder what fluid you'll put in if it needs topping off.
