| lowering hiway rpm ? I was talkin to a friend that says there is a thing you can put on a the manual transmission of like a Dodge or Ford truck to lower the rpm at hiway speed to get better gas milage.
Has anyone ever heard of this?Cuz I sure aint.
I dont see how it could do that without messin with the gear ratio. But if it could be done on my sw2,I'ld think about gettin one. |

| The only way to lower your speed or alter it for that matter would be gear ratios. The final drive in your car could be replaced with something capatible to make your gearing longer/shorter depending on what you plan on doing.
The cost is huge though, imagine having to crack that transmission open and replace gears. Huge costs involved. I have a OS Giken Crossmission gear set in my 240SX, the gears alone were $3500 and the installation was $1500. I do all my own work but I'm not screwing around with transmissions that's for certain haha.....
Well goodluck non-the-less. |

| I would rather take the auto out and put a 5 speed in there and it would still be cheaper.

| An MP3 transmission will run about 3,000 RPM's at 73'ish MPH. An MP2 does ~2,600 or so if I remember correctly.
I've no idea what the automatic S-Series transmissions do.
Swapping out a transmission in an S-Series would probably run you no more than $800 for parts and labor. If it'd cost more, you have my pity.

| I find it funny how people that have small cars that get great gas mileage already, STILL complain about it. Gas prices aren't that high to justify something like that in a Saturn, imo. |

| Yeah, what I did to get more MPG was have a quality catback exhaust installed on my car, the one in my sig. I get between .5 and 1.5 MPG improvement depending on how I drive, PLUS I feel power gains.
I have an auto trans.
