I have a 2000 LW2 V6 with about 78,000 that I recently just purchased. The car drives great but every once in a while the maintenance light will come on and the transmission will start the shift hard. When I park the car and start it up again later the light is off but comes on later while driving. I'm about to take it to my local saturn dealership but what might be the problem.
It is not a maintenance light. It is likely the SES light (service engine soon). This comes on when the PCM (engine computer) has sensed a problem with the engine, transmission or another part of the cars operating system. About the only way to begin to find out what is causing it is to get the code (s) out of the appropitate control module.
